Cantine Colosi, Nero D’Avola, 2009

4/5 $14.99

While I’m no stranger to Italian red wines, I will say I was a stranger to the Nero grape until tasting this one. Thankfully, I can now say I am well acquainted and really enjoyed my first foray into it with this full-bodied, dry, fruity wine. It has intense fruit-forward flavors of cherry and berry, but also some nice spice to it. It is slightly tannic with a nice acidity that would make it extremely good to pair with some kind of red meat, pasta or cheese. I actually tasted this with some spicy dark chocolate, and it went amazingly! So if you want to make it a treat after a long day of work, go for it.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
