Venturini Baldini, Lambrusco, 2009

4/5 $14.99

This was my first foray into the glorious world that is Lambrusco, and I hazard to guess, it will not be my last. For those who hate anything white or want a change from the typical sparkling wine varieties, Lambrusco is a great option. And this particular choice from Venturini Baldini is quite good! With its ruby red color, festive bubbles, and earthy flavor, it easily has something for everyone. Very low on tannins and not super sweet, with a hint of spice, it really falls right in the middle taste-wise. I personally would not recommend it as a mid-meal sipper, but it would be the perfect pre-meal drink or even at the end of dinner to accompany dessert or a tasty fruit salad. And since summer is quickly approaching, there are clearly many perfect situations for that kind of beverage.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
