DeMorgenzon Stellenbosch (DMZ), Chardonnay, 2010

5/5 $17.00

Well this wine may take the cake as one of the top white wines I have consumed in a long time, and a Chardonnay to boot! But this is no oridinary Chardonnay. It is from South Africa, and has none of that heavy oakiness you find from your typical American Chards. Instead you get a decent amount of acid, brightness, vanilla, and distinct layers of tropical fruits. I brought this to a crawfish boil after tasting it at one of my favorite wine stores in Flatiron, NYC – Vino Fine Wine and Spirits, and realizing it needed to be shared in a festive setting with a group of friends, and it was a huge hit! I feel as if it worked very well with the spicy crustaceans, but would probably go well with any kind of seafood or barbecue setting. If you are looking to step out of your typical white wine shell (no pun intended), this is definitely the wine to go with!

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
