Ramon Cardova, Rioja, 2009

5/5 $13.50

Could I have found a new favorite Spanish red? Dare I say, I think I have. Perhaps it’s the fact that this Rioja is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes or the nature of the wine is both light and full of flavor at the same time. Whatever it is, just give me another bottle of this pronto! It is fruity and intense, with hints of berry and plum, but at the same time earthy in a completely unpretentious, unassuming way. Definitely an easy drinking wine that I believe could be enjoyed year round. I feel like it would go excellently with some lamb, fish, or cheese; however, probably not as well with heartier meats or stews. Then again, not all red wines need to do that… cheese yes, a big piece of steak, not always. Whatever the occasion… a gathering of friends or date night with a prospective soul mate, this wine would be perfect!

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
