Clos de los Siete, Malbec Blend, 2009

5/5 $19.00

I love Malbecs! I really do. Even more than that, I love blends that include Malbec, but then add in some other favorites like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Clearly, Clos de los Siete knows how to concoct a crowd-pleaser with all those grapes hanging out together. It is a medium to fuller bodied red wine, with a shockingly smooth finish. There are some seriously intense flavors going on here, which I do not think I have experienced in another wine before. Usually I am not one to describe a wine as leathery or woodsy tasting, but those types of flavors are pretty undeniable. However, due to the high level of tannins and nice balance of dark fruits, it comes together in a way that is an overall great wine to drink. I will say these rich, Argentinian reds really does scream steak, so think heartier meats or sausage if you want to pair it with a meal.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
