Swedish Hill, Optimus, 2007

4/5 $23.99

I was first introduced to this wine a little over a year ago at a tasting in Lake Placid, NY. It was one of the few local, east coast blends I enjoyed enough to purchase. After forgetting to cork my new favorite Tempranillo, I had to run out for a wine that could compete with my homemade meat lasagna. Luckily I recognized Optimus’s bold label and reminisced about its unique flavor. This blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot was the perfect compliment. It is balanced nicely as a smooth, bold red contrasted by natural tanins as a result of aging in oak. All I know for sure is Swedish Hill will be a producer I won’t soon forget. Just wait till I review their Jack Ass Red!

You know the burnt-out entrepreneur in front of you in line at Target who was intermittently chuckling to himself? Nice to meet you, too. I recently gave up my day job so my productivity, and drinking, have increased dramatically.
