Six Hats, Shiraz, 2009

4/5 $10.00

At first sip, I was not really sure how I felt about this wine. But, as I continued to drink, I really started to notice the complexity and juiciness of this Shiraz that packs a bit of a punch. In my opinion, it is a good red for drinking in the colder months as it is peppery, jammy, with a hint of chocolate in the end notes. I would not pair it with spicier dishes, but more with lamb, hearty pasta, or roast chicken. The price tag on this is pretty amazing as well, which always can help with purchase decisions. Even more than that, one of the most interesting things about the Six Hats brand is that it is completely Fair Trade Certified and supports equitable farming. I did not know that at the time I bought it; however, it makes me feel even better about keeping it on my list of a brand to keep going back to for more.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
