E. Guigal, Cotes du Rhone, 2007

5/5 $15.00

I have to say this is one of the best French reds I have had. To be fair, I have not had a ton anyways; however, when I do they are usually from Rhone, but really incomparable to what this one, as it was such a pleasant experience to drink this wine. Guigal is known for producing fabulous Cotes du Rhone wines, particularly from this year, so I definitely think everyone should seek this one out for an occasion that merits a solid medium-bodied red. I’d say this wine is more for sharing with a good friend or significant other over a meal of crusty bread and a meat dish like lamb or beef stew. There is some significant spice here with a bright fruitiness that is almost seductive. I did find out a fun fact about this wine that the Guigal family did not produce any Cotes du Rhone wines in 2008, due to a poor harvest, so 2007 clearly had a special trick up its sleeve. Highly recommend and will be drinking this one again soon myself.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
