Château de Fleurie, Gamay, 2009

4/5 $20.00

I had the pleasure of drinking this wine over a fabulous meal with my family the other night. And while the food was exceptional on its own, this wine was a superb complement to the overall meal. It is a medium-bodied Gamay wine, with a brightness that contrasts well with its fruitiness. Seems like the 2009 vintage has provided it with enough time fermenting to develop a distinct flavor all its own. Think floral notes, red berries, and pretty light on the tannins. Because of this, it really does pair well with both, lighter dishes like cod or pasta, or meats like pork or lamb. I would label this a bit more of a special occasion wine, not necessarily because of the price, but because it deserves to be consumed with a nice meal and great company.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
