BOE Social Club White, 2007

4/5 $12.99

To be fair, you can really only purchase this wine if you live in the fair city of New York (or online); however, if you do live in NYC and have never visited Brooklyn Oenology you really must ASAP! As described on the site “Brooklyn Oenology (EN-ology, or simply ‘BOE’), is a local, woman-owned winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn founded by winemaker Alie Shaper in 2006. Brooklyn Oenology works to present the flavor of our region by sourcing grapes exclusively from local New York State vineyards and by placing the exciting work of New York City artists on our labels.” I ended up at this lovely wine tasting room for an impromptu tasting, and the Social Club White was a standout for sure. It is crisp and full of fruits like citrus, apple, and nectarine, with very little oak (which is important to me, since I am not a huge oak fan with my white wines). It is a clean, light wine that could really pair well with anything and in most situations, like picnics, dinner parties, or chatting with good friends. Also, as noted above, they pride themselves on using local NYC artists to create really interesting labels, so each wine is like a piece of art! Can’t beat that added bonus.

Advertising professional by day and wine drinker by night, often overwhelmed by the sheer choices in wine stores, I have a tendency to not drink the same wine twice. My biggest tip to all Amateur winos, never swirl the glass in your hand, you just look pretentious. Swirl it on the table and you'll never worry again about that favorite sweater having a big red wine stain on it.
